Setting Up a My Business Account with the CRA
A CRA My Business Account gives business owners, directors, and partners secure online access to key tax accounts, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, and payroll. If you want to file returns, make payments, check your account balances, or update business information, this portal makes it all much easier.
Whether you're managing one account or several, a My Business Account is a must-have tool to stay organized and up to date with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Once set up, you can:
File and view GST/HST returns and payments
Update your business name, address, or banking information
View past corporate tax filings and Notices of Assessment
Access T-slip filings and payroll account transactions
Monitor account balances and refund status

What You’ll Need to Get Started
Before registering, have the following ready:
Your Business Number (BN) and related account identifiers (e.g., RT for GST/HST, RP for payroll)
Your SIN, date of birth, and postal code
Details from a past personal tax return (e.g., line 15000 from your T1)
Access to a valid mailing address on file with the CRA
A phone number (for 2-factor authentication)
How to Register for a CRA My Business Account (2 ways)
Here’s a simplified step-by-step to help you register using CRA User ID and Password:
Go to the CRA's Sign-In Services page and choose “Register for a CRA Account”
Under Option 2, click “CRA user ID and password”
Enter your SIN and click Next.
Provide your postal code, date of birth, and tax info from a previous return.
Confirm your mailing address on file with the CRA.
Create a CRA user ID (8–16 characters; no spaces or special characters except ., -, _, or '). You can also use your credentials you use for your Online Banking. See below for further guidance of this option.
Set a secure password (at least 1 uppercase, 1 lowercase, 1 digit; same character rules as above).
Choose and answer five security questions.
Enroll in multi-factor authentication via phone or a CRA-provided passcode grid.
Enter your business number (BN).
Agree to the terms of use by entering your password and selecting “I agree.”
Wait to receive your security code by mail (usually within 10 business days).
Once received, log in with your CRA user ID and password, enter the code, and confirm access.
That’s it — you now have full access to your CRA My Business Account.
Registering for CRA My Business Account Using Online Banking (Sign-In Partner)
1. Go to the CRA's Sign-In Services page and choose “Register for a CRA Account”
2. Under Option 1, choose “Sign-In Partner Login/Register.”
3. Select your bank or credit union from the list.
4. Log in using your existing online banking username and password.
5. Provide personal information to register (e.g. SIN, postal code, date of birth, and information from a previous tax return).
6. Confirm your mailing address on file with the CRA.
7. Enter your business number (BN).
8. Agree to the terms of use.
9. Wait for your CRA security code to arrive by mail (usually within 10 business days).
10. Log back in using your online banking and enter the security code to complete your registration.
That’s it — you now have full access to your CRA My Business Account.
Note: If you're a bookkeeper, employee, or third-party accountant (but not an owner/director), you should register for a CRA RepID instead and access the business via Represent a Client.

How to Approve a Representative Request (3 Easy Steps)
1. Log in to My Business Account
Go to the CRA My Business Account and sign in with your CRA user ID and password.
2. Go to the “Authorized Representatives” Section
From the main menu, select “Profile” or “Representatives,” then choose “Review and confirm pending authorizations.”
3. Review and Accept the Request
You’ll see a pending request from the firm (identified by their name or RepID). Review the access details, select “Accept,” and confirm.
Once accepted, your accounting firm will have access to the accounts you authorized (e.g., GST/HST, payroll, corporate tax) and can begin assisting you right away.
